Due to their lack of ATP tour encounters, the SoCal natives have a 0-0 head-to-head record. But when they met in the 2020 Oracle Challenger, Nakashima defeated Giron in three sets by outwitting him.

Prediction

This will be their first ever meeting on tour level.

Marcos Giron, the third seed, will play fellow American Brandon Nakashima, the fifth seed, in the ATP San Diego Open final, which looks to be interesting. Both men have displayed excellent tennis this week, and they are both undoubtedly motivated to claim their first tour-level victory.

One of Giron’s best weeks in his career has been this one. The 29-year-old has played at the Challenger and Future levels for the majority of his career, but over the last two years, he has established himself as a tour-level regular, and he has so far benefited from his experience at the ATP San Diego Open. He defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first match of his week, 6-4, 6-3, and followed it up by defeating James Duckworth, 7-6, 6-3. When he reached the final, he defeated top seed Dan Evans 6-3, 7-5.

On the other hand, Nakashima had to work hard to defeat Zachary Svajda, a fellow countryman, in the first round. However, after two tense sets, the veteran prevailed. Although Daniel Elahi Galan pushed him to the limit in the quarterfinals, he persevered and defeated the Colombian 6-3 4-6 6-4. His victory over Denis Kudla in the second round was less difficult. To advance to his third tour-level final, Nakashima next defeated Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 7-6.

Nakashima and Giron are both reliable from either wing, and they both have good court coverage. In his stronger strength from the back of the court, Nakashima may have an advantage. In comparison to Giron, the 21-year-old has more alternatives for attacking, with his forehand in particular being a dangerous weapon. As a result, Giron must do everything in his power to limit Nakashima’s time with the ball. Giron has the equipment to do it, which is a blessing.
