Verratti’s situation at PSG took an unexpected turn as he was notably excluded from Luis Enrique’s squad. The former Barcelona coach made his intentions clear to Verratti, stating, “You will never play with me.”

Enrique has wasted no time in bolstering PSG’s midfield with new signings such as Manuel Ugarte, Kang-in Lee, and Cher Ndour, seemingly paving the way for Verratti’s exit.

The midfielder arrived at the club from Italian side Pescara in 2012 for a relatively modest fee of approximately $13 million (£10 million, €12 million). His arrival coincided with PSG’s emergence as a football powerhouse, and he played a pivotal role in their success.

Over the course of a decade, Verratti helped secure nine Ligue 1 titles, seven Coupe de France trophies, six Coupe de la Ligue titles, and nine Trophée des Champions.

During his time at the French club, Verratti earned a substantial annual salary, reportedly in the vicinity of $15.6 million (£12.5 million, €14.6 million), leading to a total income of nearly $86 million (£69 million, €80 million) during his PSG tenure.

According to reports, the transfer was finalized for an estimated sum of nearly $50 million (£40 million, €47 million). Moreover, it has been widely reported that Verratti will earn a staggering $37 million (£29 million, €34 million) annually under his two-year contract with Al-Arabi. He has a current net worth of 50 million euros.

Despite being under contract with PSG until June 2026, the lure of Qatar proved irresistible for Verratti, and the offer made by Al-Arabi presented a compelling opportunity for both parties.
