March Madness 2023 Final Four teams and preview

Ahead of the competition, check out a brief preview of the four teams and the competition, along with other details.

University of Connecticut Huskies (No.4 seed)

Despite starting the preseason ranked just outside the top-25, the Huskies are one of the strong contenders of the tournament and are currently playing their best basketball of the season.

The Huskies have so far won their first four games in the competition with an average 22.5 points per game. They managed to beat Iona (No. 13), Saint Mary’s (No.5), Arkansas (No.8) and Gonzaga (No.3). This is their first Final Four appearance since back in 2014, when they won the fourth edition of the competition.

University of Miami (No.5 seed)

The Miami Hurricanes have so far been one of the most offensive teams throughout March Madness. They have scored an average of 81.2 points per game and an absurd 23 free throws per game. This volume of shooting also helps slow down the game, since their defense ranks outside the top 100 nationally.

The team will have to work on both sides however, if they wish to win their first-ever championship game. They are up against UConn on 1 April, the only other team with a higher points per game total.

San Diego State University (No. 5 seed)

The San Diego Aztecs will take part in their first Final Four following a close 57-56 win over No. 6 Creighton on Sunday (26 March).

Creighton’s who scored only 56, despite averaging 77 per game this season shows how strong the Aztecs defense was. San Diego will go up against Florida Atlantic University who are an unexpected side in the Final Four. Prior to the tournament, they ranked 25th in offensive efficiency.

Florida Atlantic University (No. 9 seed)

The Florida Owls are the underdogs of the 2023 March Madness who play in a non-power league in Conference USA. Prior to this season’s competition, the Owls had never won a game in the men’s NCAA tournament.

However, FAU entered the March Madness in top form following a 31-3 season and never looked back ever since. The registered tough wins over Memphis (No.8), Farleigh Dickinson (no.16), Tennessee (No.4) and Kansas State (No.3).
