Prior to being called out, Sabitzer was initially named in the starting lineup for the game against Nottingham Forest.

Sabitzer suffers injury concerns

Just 15 minutes prior to kick-off Ten Hag decided to pull out Sabitzer from the lineup due to injury concerns. Instead, he chose Christian Eriksen to replace him and make his first start since January. What made the move more sad was that it came just days after Ten Hag himself delivered the news about Lisandro Martinez set to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Another of their star defenders Raphael Varane is also set to miss a couple of weeks. Sabitzer is the latest to join Manchester United’s growing injured players list. At present, top goalscorer Marcus Rashford is still out alongside Luke Shaw without a clear return date. Other players include Alejandro Garnacho, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.

Moreover, Tyrell Malacia also just got ruled out of the trip to Forest following a sore knee. Sabitzer’s injury concern is a massive blow to Ten Hag and United especially with the Austrian currently in stunning form.

Erik ten Hag reveals latest Marcel Sabitzer injury update

While speaking during a post-match interview during his side’s 2-0 win over Forest, Ten Hag revealed an injury update on Marcel Sabitzer. The Norwegian manager confirmed that he would not be able to reveal the exact return date for the 29-year-old before conducting further tests.

Ten Hag stated:

Sabitzer came off in the warm up, he felt something. We decided not to take the risk, we will find out tomorrow what it is. But when you have Eriksen on the bench, it is definitely not a disadvantage.”

“Last week I had nine fit top defenders, now I have four. We need all our players, we are still in three competitions, we need all the players to form a top team.”

Much to the relief of fans and Ten Hag himself, Casemiro and Eriksen’s return have reduced United’s midfield woes. Ten Hag will be looking forward to bring back Sabitzer soon with the Reds set face to Sevilla next. Their upcoming match against the Spanish club will determine their spot in the final four of the Europa League.
