Manika Batra And Sathiyan Gnanasekaran Win WTT Contender Budapest 2021 Mixed Doubles Title

After losing in the semi-finals of the women’s singles event, Manika Batra and G Sathiyan triumphed in the mixed doubles category at the WTT Contender in Budapest

She failed to make the cut in the women’s singles event at the WTT Contender Budapest 2021 as she bowed out in the semi-finals but Manika Batra more than redeemed herself. Contesting in the final of the mixed doubles alongside Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manika ended up bringing home first place for herself.

Taking on the Hungarian duo of Nandor Ecseki and Dora Madarasz, Manika Batra and G.Sathiyan came hot out of the blocks as they won the first game 11-9. However, parity was soon restored as the world ranking 93 Hungarian hit back to take the second game 11-9.

From there on though it was all about the Indian duo with them dominating their competitors in the third and fourth games to seal the title in their favour. The win came after Manika had previously been ousted in the women’s singles semi-final as she was routed 4-0 by Russian Elizabet Abraamian, 10-12, 9-11, 10-12, 8-11.

The 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6 win for Manika and Sathiyan came in the wake of them getting the better of world number seven duo from Slovakia, Barbara Balazova and Lubomir Pistej in the quarterfinals. Manika will now head back to India whilst Sathiyan will be shaocasing his mettle in the Czech Open.

โ€œIt is great that we were able to win the event with very little practice. We were quite tactically and seem to complement each otherโ€™s game. Manika had me approached for the partnership a while.” Sathiyan said ensuing his win alongside his new partner.
