Mango Utsava Mela 2024 in Bangalore Basavanagudi’s National College grounds, dates, timings, venue and prices details
The four-day “Mango Utsava” is going on at Basavanagudi’s National College grounds. The timings are from 11 am to 10 pm from 18-22 April.
Mango varieties indigenous to the state of Karnataka are being sold at twenty stalls set up by farmers from over twenty localities. It is anticipated that the event will draw more than five thousand attendees.
In order to ensure that the farmers receive their fair share of income, the mela intends to establish a direct line of communication with consumers. The farmers have lost their mango crops to pest attacks and weather fluctuations year after year.
First-time mela participant Munindra Reddy who is a farmer from Chickballapur revealed that 4-5 years ago, they used to get good-quality mangoes. The mangoes had scars on them from high temperature and this indicated that they were damaged. Many hectares have also not experienced pollination or blossoming. For them, logistics have never been a problem.
However, this year’s deliveries have decreased, according to him. He is optimistic that he will be able to sell his quality mangos through the mela without the need for middlemen.
Vasavi Condiments’ Swati K.S. mentioned that last year, they hosted Mango-Utsava in Jayanagar and the farmers were able to make a good profit. That’s the reason a lot of them want to return. Farmers get a small margin when distributors and other parties are engaged. Customers will be able to interact with farmers at this event and make direct purchases from them, assisting in their direct financial gain.
Mango types at Mango Utsava
Popular kinds available at Mango-Utsava are the Alphonso (₹200 per kg), Kesar (₹400 per kg), Badami which is also known as Karnataka Alphonso (₹200-250 per kg), and Senthura (₹100 per kg).
Bharathi M., customer from Basaveshwaranagar, said this was her first time visiting the mela. “I came to know of the event through a poster found near the National College grounds. I bought good quality Senthura mangoes,” she said.
