The Etihad stadium
Ever since its opening in July 2002, the stadium has undergone several changes and improvements. The stadium initially launched as a venue for the Commonwealth Games before being converted to Manchester City’s home stadium one year later. Although the stadium was originally called the City of Manchester Stadium, it was later renamed to the Etihad Stadium back in 2011 due to various sponsorship reasons.
The first redevelopment plans on the stadium took place in 2013 for a massive construction cost of around £50 million. It included the extension of the stands behind both ends of the ground as well as an increase in the commercial areas inside the stadium. The current redevelopment of the north stand will now complement the work completed on the south stand back in 2015.
