Stefan Ortega Moreno is a German professional footballer who was born on 6 November 1992 in Hofgeismar, Germany. Moreno, currently plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Manchester City after joining them in 2022. He currently wears the number 18 jersey and has previously played for Arminia Bielefeld (2017), TSV 1860 Munich (2014), and Arminia Bielefeld (2011).

Stefan Ortega began his professional club career at TSV Jahn Calden in northern Hessen before.  He eventually moved on to KSV Baunatal and later to KSV Hessen Kassel. In 2007, Ortega moved to Arminia Bielefeld where he joined their youth setup. He made a total of six appearances for the B team in the Regionalliga West during the 2010-11 season.

Just a year later, Ortega joined the first team, to make his senior debut for Arminia against 1. FC Heidenheim on October 1, 2011. He came on as a sub for the injured Patrick Platins.

Ortega then moved to TSV 1860 Munich on a free transfer in June 2014. He made his debut for the Münchner Lions during the first round of the DFB-Pokal in 2014–15. In the match, his side defeated Holstein Kiel 2-1. Ortega eventually became the starting goalkeeper in August 2014, replacing Gábor Király.

Following the end of the 2016–17 season, 1860 Munich got relegated, and Ortega left the team. He signed a three-year contract to return to Arminia, which was later extended by six months in January 2020. Ortega joined the Bundesliga with Arminia Bielefeld after defeating VfB Stuttgart 2-0 on the final matchday of the season.

In their first season in the Bundesliga, the team finished in 15th place and managed to avoid relegation. Popular German football publication “Kicker” listed Ortega as the second-best goalkeeper in the league.

Ortega later joined the Premier League with Manchester City in July 2022 on a free transfer. He made his debut during a goalless group stage match in the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund. He recently made his first Premier League appearance in the recent game against Brighton where he won the man of the match following an impressive performance.

Stefan Ortega international career

Stefan Ortega began his national team career, with the German U19 national team back in 2010. However, he did not play that year and later got named as a potential reserve for the Germany national team for the UEFA Euro 2020 on May 21, 2021. He comes as the fourth choice behind Manuel Neuer, Bernd Leno, and Kevin Trapp.
