PV Sindhu the two-time Olympic medallist, lost 21-14, 21-17 to world No. 9 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, in the women’s singles semi-finals.

HS Prannoy enters men’s singles final

India’s HS Prannoy, is currently on a fiery run at the Malaysia Masters. The world no. 9 defeated world No. 6 Chou Tien Chen, Li Shi Feng, the reigning All England champion and Kenta Nishimoto, the Madrid Masters 2023 winner on his way to the semis.


In the recent semi-finals match against world No. 57 Christian Adinata, Prannoy started out strong winning the first seven points. Adinata however, made a solid comeback and brought things to level at 15-15. However, things took a sad turn when Prannoy was leading at 19-17. Christian suffered an unfortunate injury, which forced him to pull out of the match. As such, Prannoy won the match by default.

Following the win, HS Prannoy will now face the winner of the other semi-final clash between Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-Yi and the People’s Republic of China’s Weng Hong Yang. The final match will take place on Sunday and marks Prannoy’s first final appearance since his loss to Jonatan Christie in the 2022 Swiss Open final.

PV Sindhu loses out in women’s singles semi-finals

Earlier in the day, PV Sindhu played against Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the women’s singles semi-finals. Sindhu dominated the early parts of the game and even secured a three-point lead heading into the break.

However, Tunjung came back stronger after the restart and regained control of the match. The Indonesian star won 13 of the next 16 points with ease. Interestingly, Tunjug beat Sindhu just last month in the Madrid Masters final.

PV Sindhu then started off the second game well and lead 4-1, but Tunjung, fought back and won the set in 40 minutes. The recent win marks Tunjung’s second straight victory over PV Sindhu. Sindhu won the previous seven meetings.
