31 year old Sandeep was martyred in action during the November 2008 Mumbai attack. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was born on 15 March 1977 in Calicut, Kerala and his parents are Shri K. Unnikrishnan and Mrs Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan. He completed her early education at Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore and joined the Indian Army in 1999.
Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan belonged to a Hindu family from the Nair caste of Bangalore and his father is an ISRO officer while his wife was Neha Unnikrishnan.ย

Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was awarded the winner of the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, on 26th January in the year 2009 by President Pratibha Patil. He spent 14 years at The Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore, and before graduating in the year 1995 in the ISC Science stream he wanted to join the Army.
He was holding a Bachelor of Arts degree. His mates and teachers recalled him as being a good athlete who was active in school activities and sports events. Sandeep was married to Neha.
Sandeep joined the National Defence Academy at Pune, Maharashtra in the year 1995. He was a part of the Oscar Squadron No. 4 Battalion and a graduate of the 94th Course of NDA. He received a substantive promotion to captain on 12th June in the year 2003, following another promotion to major on 13th June in the year 2005.
He was also trained in the High Altitude Warfare School, Gulmarg. After serving in different locations of India including the Siachen, Jammu, and Kashmir, Gujarat, during the 2002 Gujarat Riots, the Hyderabad, and Rajasthan, he was selected to join the National Security Guards.
After the completion of training, Major was assigned as the training officer for the 51 Special Action Group (51 SAG) of NSG, in January 2007 and he also participated in different operations of the NSG.
Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was the team commander of 51 Special Action Group (51 SAG) and deployed in the hotel to rescue the hostages during the Mumbai attack in 2009. He entered the hotel with a group of 10 commandos and reached the sixth floor through the staircase where he arranged for his evacuation of injured officers and continued to engage terrorists in the firefight.
He then decided to chase the terrorists alone, as they were trying to escape to the next floor and he managed to corner all four terrorists to the Ballroom.
Biopic on Major Sandeep
Sony Pictures Entertainment has registered two titles for the biopic named, Major 2022 with the producersโ association, in their endeavor is to make a biopic on his whole life.
The film, titled Major, stars Adivi Sesh in the titular role of Major Sandeep. The principal photography of the movie started in February of 2020 and was released worldwide on 3rd June in the year 2022.
