Know about the newly launched first Indian sports documentary “Maitanam” by FIFA
FIFA and Reliance Industries-backed RISE Worldwide have declared the launch of the first Indian sports documentary known as “Maitanam” which will become a part of FIFA + Originals and will be available global according to what the company said. Head of the broadcast and production at RISE Worldwide, James Rego said that are happy to partner with FIFA + and are looking forward to connecting with billions of fans of football.

On the other hand, Commissioning Editor, FIFA+ Andrew Whitelaw said, “We are happy to partner with RISE Worldwide as we foray into the Indian market with Maitanam, a docu-film on football set in Kerala. FIFA+ Originals are aimed at millions of sports fans across the globe. These films throw up unique perspectives on how football is played across geographies and cultures and the place the game commands in the hearts of fans.”
The sports management organisation claims that this documentary throws light on the ‘beautiful game’ as it is played in the country. It shows six stories from Kerala, where football is a way of life, that are included in the 40-minute documentary in a storytelling form.
The Malayalam word maitanam, which means ‘ground’ or, by extension, stadium, is an ode to Kerala’s devotion to the sport and seeks to express the Malayali passion for the sport, as well its ubiquity in the state, according to the statement.
Where To Watch Maitanam?
The first Indian sports documentary ‘Maitanam- The Story of Football in Kerala’ was the first time live telecasted on FIFA+ on May 1, 2022.
The 40-minute documentary can ve watched on FIFA+ while it is being available all over the world.
What Does The Story Tell?
A 40-minute storytelling documentary, it has six different stories from Kerela, which remains the nurseries of Indian Football. The release states that the documentary shows diverse terrains from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur. “Meeting priests that play barefoot, a women’s team that has been making waves in overseas competitions, little girls training under nonagenarians; and a football commentator whose passion for the game is manifested in anecdotes.”
