MAFS NZ groom Andrew Jury cause of death, obituary, bio, age, father and wife

Know more about Andrew Jury, a participant in “Married At First Sight” (MAFS) NZ, as he passed away while in remand at Mt Eden prison with his cause of death not known yet

He was remanded in custody on April 2 and was scheduled to appear in court via video link on Thursday, a week after his death.

The 33-year-old, faced charges including assault with intent to injure, possessing an offensive weapon, willful damage, being unlawfully in a building, and threatening behavior, as per court documents.

Dion Paki, general manager of Mt Eden Corrections Facility, stated, “Sadly, a man in custody at Mt Eden Corrections Facility passed away on the morning of Thursday, June 27, 2024.

“Our staff, with the assistance of medical and emergency personnel, made every effort to save him, but were unsuccessful.”

While investigations are ongoing, Paki mentioned that there is no indication that Jury’s death is suspicious.

As with all prison deaths, his case has been referred to the Coroner’s office and is subject to an internal incident review and investigation by the independent Corrections Inspectorate.

Cause of Death

“The Inspectorate and Coroner both perform a thorough independent assessment of each incident, providing commentary and recommendations regarding the care and treatment of deceased individuals,” Paki explained. “Additionally, the Coroner determines the cause of death.” A cause of death is yet to be revealed.

What Did Andrew’s Father Reveal?

Jury’s father, Roy Jury, expressed to media that his son had been struggling in prison. “It should have been a red flag when Andy stopped communicating with family and friends,” he said.

“I and Andy’s extended family and friends are deeply saddened and bewildered by this distressing event.”

About Andrew Jury

A builder by profession, Jury appeared on the first season of MAFS NZ, where he was matched with Vicky Gleeson-Stokes.

The 33 year old builder was one of the original grooms on the first season of the New Zealand series of the show in 2017.

Although season one participants were legally married, the only New Zealand season to do so, the couple did not stay together.

Jury’s castmate, Haydn Daniel, mentioned to Stuff that he caught up with Jury every couple of months and had spoken to him recently. “He seemed to be aware of his issues and was getting help.”

Daniel also highlighted the need for better post-show support, saying, “Duty of care was pretty lacking for us, and I think it’s a conversation that needs to keep happening and evolving about what happens afterwards.”
