The novel’s plot by author Akihito Tsukushi, who has amassed a strong fan following, is incredibly captivating and emotionally stirring. Nonetheless, a sizable segment of anime enthusiasts voiced their severe dissatisfaction, pointing out in particular the series’ controversial recurrent themes of child abuse and assault.
Due to all this, a few K-pop celebrities, including Taeyong from NCT, Mingi from ATEEZ, Woozi from SEVENTEEN, and Soobin from TXT, have recently drawn criticism from fans for endorsing the anime series. Many also claimed that Akihito has been arrested on charges of pedophilia. However, this is not true and he is totally fine.
Since then, many people have been trying to learn more about Made in Abyss. So, here’s what we know about it:
More about Made in Abyss
With its summer 2017 premiere, “Made in Abyss” is a dystopian fantasy series set in a dark universe. Riko, an orphaned child, and Reg, a kid who is partially robotic yet remarkably human-like, are its main protagonists.
The narrative tracks Riko and Reg’s trip as they set out to find Riko’s mother, who is said to have vanished into the enigmatic and dangerous Abyss. This mysterious abyss extends into the earth’s depths and is brimming with mystical items and fascinating but dangerous animals. Riko aspires to follow in her mother’s footsteps as a cave raider.
However, despite its graphically brilliant animation and deeply intertwined story, ‘Made in Abyss’ is criticized for its disturbing depiction of the antagonist Bondrewd’s torture of children. In an attempt to discover the mysteries of the Abyss, this character—an obsessive researcher—is shown to be morally repugnant and to have sunk to horrible depths.
