Danielle Ballard, a former LSU basketball player, was killed in her native Memphis, Tennessee, after being hit by a car. Authorities said an investigation is ongoing and in its early phases but have not named the driver of the car that struck Ballard or released any information.

As per to the Memphis Police Department, the “tragic accident” occurred around 1:26 a.m. on Thursday not far from the FedEx Forum. Shortly after the collision, the 29-year-old was sent to the hospital in severe condition, but she was declared dead when she got there. According to the MPD, Ballard was on foot when she was struck in the left lane of southbound traffic by the front end of a car at the intersection of Coleman Road and Raleigh Lagrange Road.

Police said the driver remained at the site, and the investigation is still ongoing. According to Fox News, no charges were brought right away.
