T20 World Cup 2021: Lockie Ferguson injury details, return date, update, news and report
As per the statement given out by New Zealand Cricket, Lockie Ferguson felt some tightness in his right calf post training which led to an MRI scan on game-day. The results of the scan revealed a grade two tear which would easily require three to four weeks recovery. The Kiwis are lucky to have found a replacement for Ferguson in 29-year old Adam Milne.
The schedule for New Zealand will have them play a total of 5 matches in 13 days for the group stage of the tournament. Kiwis’ coach Gary Stead expressed his distress by saying, “It’s a real shame for Lockie to have this happen at the eve of the tournament and the entire team is feeling for him right now.”
Gary also mentioned how crucial Ferguson was to the squad and to lose him to an injury was a big blow.
Ferguson injury history
- Ferguson’s most recent injury was last year in December, when he was ruled out for 6 weeks after being diagnosed with a partial stress fracture to his lumbar spine. He had to rest for a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks at that time.
- Before his 2020 injury, the 30-year old Kiwi pacer had suffered a right-calf muscle tendon strain in December, 2019. That was the time when it was Ferguson’s debut test and he had bowled just 11 overs against Australia on Day 1 of the series in Perth.
