Regrettably, the reported victim of the assault is believed to be none other than his wife, Chyane Westbrook. Recent revelations include a leaked audio recording purportedly featuring Charlo discussing the incident.

Although the authenticity of the recording is yet to be officially confirmed, fans strongly believe it to be the voice of the boxer.

In the leaked audio, Jermell can be heard saying, “I thought she was tough bro, I hit that b***h like this,” while discussing striking his wife in the eye, prompting her to contact the police. The leaked audio also suggests that Charlo may have been under the influence of alcohol during the conversation.

This follows his admission of struggles with drugs and alcohol, contributing to mental health issues, following his defeat to Canelo Alvarez on September 30.

Jermell Charlo was released on December 18 after his bond amount was posted by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. Subsequent reports indicate that his wife, Chyane Westbrook, has filed for a temporary restraining order and initiated divorce proceedings.

Charlo’s wife shared a cryptic message on Instagram following his arrest, adding an air of mystery to the unfolding events.

Despite these developments, there has been no official comment from Charlo or his representatives. Likewise, Premier Boxing Champions, the promotional banner under which Charlo fights, has not issued a statement.

This incident is not the first time Jermell Charlo has faced legal issues in his personal life. In May 2018, he was arrested and charged with felony domestic violence for allegedly attempting to choke his former girlfriend, Jazmyne Olison.

He was released on bail, and a year later, the jury found him innocent. Additionally, in March 2022, Charlo faced an arrest warrant for making a terroristic threat to a cousin of the Charlo twins, further contributing to the complex narrative surrounding the boxer.
