Have a look at which NFL stadiums use real grass and which ones are with artificial turf as we look at the football surfaces in 2023
Due to evidence of an increase in injuries while playing on turf fields, players have been vociferous in recent years about opposing them.
List of NFL stadiums with real grass vs artificial turf in the 2023-2024 season
The NFLPA continues to demand the removal of artificial surfaces, despite the NFL not having yet taken any steps to bring about a change. Most recently, NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell asked the league to take into consideration mandating that real grass rather than turf be used in each team’s facilities.
NFL teams continue to argue that there isn’t a significant difference in injuries between the two teams, but the players don’t agree. NFL teams don’t all use the same playing surface. The stadiums with turf and those with grass are split equally.
There are 30 NFL stadiums, and turf and grass are used equally in each. The fields of 15 stadiums are covered in artificial grass. This means that 17 clubs play on turf at home, with the Chargers/Rams and Jets/Giants sharing football fields. Nissan Stadium, the home of the Titans, replaced grass with turf this past offseason, making it one of the newest stadiums to use artificial turf.
