South Africa scored 428/5, breaking the previous mark, in a game against Sri Lanka in their opening match of the 2023 edition at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram all scored hundreds as South Africa thrashed Sri Lanka in their World Cup encounter in Delhi by amassing 428 for five. Since the tournament’s debut in 1975, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has seen a number of teams unleash their best batting displays.

South Africa’s massive 428 for five against Sri Lanka in its 2023 World Cup opening match in Delhi beat Australia’s previous record from 2015. The Proteas made history by scoring three 400-plus totals, becoming the first team to do so, and by having three batters record tons in a single World Cup inning.

Aiden Markram hits the fastest ODI World Cup century in history.

At a match between Sri Lanka and South Africa for the ICC World Cup 2023 on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, South Africa’s Aiden Markram scored the fastest ODI World Cup hundred. Markram, who came in at number five, cruised to a quickfire 100 in 49 balls, shattering Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien’s 50-ball century from the 2011 tournament.

When South Africa was given the opportunity to bat, they got off to an amazing start thanks to centuries from Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen. After accomplishing the feat twice in 2015, South Africa tied its own record for the most hundreds in a single team innings (3). Only one other team, England, has ever scored three centuries in a single inning.
