List Of Athletes To Have Withdrawn From Tokyo Olympics After Testing Positive For COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has created lots of trouble for Tokyo to hold the 2020 Olympics with a string of athletes withdrawing after testing positive 

Forbes reported that two members from Czech Republic contingent had tested positive for COVID-19 and it has been speculated that they got the virus while travelling in the flight, when they were coming to Tokyo. They became the latest athletes to have joined the list of athletes withdrawing from the marquee event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The total number of COVID-19 cases reported among the people who are related with the Olympics on Thursday has been mentioned by the organizers in a in a news conference. Among those who tested positive, 52 are Japanese officials, who include staff members and contractors, and 35 overseas players.

In a recent interview with the Today show Monday, April Ross, a U.S. beach volleyball player, who is part of the Olympic team said, “I believe that the situation was kept under control till the games will start and I was quite confident for a long time and then everyday here you hear people testing positive, you get anxious about it.”

Let’s take a look at the athletes who have withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympics 2020 till now after testing postive.

1.  Czech Republic: Ondrej Perusic and Marketa Slukova Nausch, beach volleyball players, Pavel Sirucek, Table tennis player, and Michal Schlegal, cyclist, had tested positive for COVID-19 and have withdrawn from the marquee event. An investigation will also be conducted to determine what flight the contingent took.

2. U.S.: Taylor Crabb, men’s beach volleyball player, tested positive for Covid-19 in the country, even after getting himself vaccinated and when he left U.S., he tested negative for the virus.

3. U.S.: Kara Eaker, women gymnast, tested positive for COVID-19 on July 20, even after getting fully vaccinated.

4. U.S.: Katie Lou Samuelson, tested positive for COVID-19 on July 20, even after getting fully vaccinated and taking all the precautions.

5. U.S : Coco Gauff, tennis player, tested positive for COVID-19 on July 18 and has decided to withdraw from the games. This was her first Olympics.
