Lionel Messi had two goals and two assists to aid Paris Saint-Germain to a 7-2 victory on the night. The victory secured the French giants’ participation in the competition’s knockout phase. Messi became the first player in Europe’s top five divisions to have over 10 goals and ten assists in all competitions after his performance against Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, that was not the only achievement he made that night. Messi has now broken Pele’s record for most goals and assists combined. Throughout his glittering career, the Brazilian icon was involved in 1,126 goals.

Messi, on the other hand, has already exceeded that record, with four goals against Shakhtar Donetsk bringing his total to 1,127.  Furthermore, at the age of 35, Messi has become the oldest player in Champions League history to record two goals and two assists in a single game.
