The Argentina national football team led by professional football icon Lionel Messi is all set to visit Kerala for exhibition matches as part of the ‘Olopo Magic’ event next year.
Notably, the event is being organized by the All Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association (AKGSMA), along with financial assistance from local merchants.

Argentina national football team set to visit Kerala
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurahiman confirmed the news about the Argentinian team taking part in the exhibition matches in Kerala. Notably, Lionel Messi will lead the team, making a return to India after 14 years. Ahead of the upcoming event next year, Minister Abdurahiman recently travelled to Spain with a high-level delegation. The group held discussions with the Argentine Football Association (AFA). Following the meeting, Abdurahiman stated:
We had excellent discussions on hosting an exhibition match in the state. As a follow-up, an AFA delegation will visit the state within two months.”
Aside from discussions about the event, it also included the possibility of establishing football academies in Kerala in the future. The press conference had other key representatives, including KVVES state president Raju Apsara, AKGSMA state president Justin Palathra, and state sports council president Sharaf Ali in attendance.
Olopo Magic
The upcoming event is titled ‘Olopo Magic’ with the All Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association (AKGSMA) as the main organizers. Several local merchants are also providing financial backing for the upcoming event. Notably, the Olopo app, which was launched during the Grand Kerala Consumer Festival, is the primary organizer for the event.
Tickets and entry
As of now, there are no exact details available about the purchase of tickets and entry for the upcoming event. However, football fans can secure entry passes through reward points that they earn via their purchases at various retail outlets. Notably, the outlets have to be partnered with the app.
The event is being sponsored by the All Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association (AKGSMA), with financial support from local merchants and the event will be titled ‘Olopo Magic’, and the fans can win entry passes through reward points earned on purchases at retail outlets partnered with the Olopo app. The date, time and teams for the matches aren’t known yet. The two matches will however take place in Kochi in 2025.

According to V Abdurahiman, the event will feature two matches, with Kochi being considered as the primary venue. As of now, the organizers have not confirmed the opponent team.
