Get up to speed with everything related to Ligue 1 sack race as PSG look to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino along with his current salary and contract
Argentine professional football coach Mauricio Pochettino cannot keep his name out of the papers after reports from Paris emerge that the PSG board is looking at other options. Pochettino has had a successful managerial career so far and is famous for turning mediocre sides into title contenders.
In his previous projects, he had a major impact on the academy players and nurtured new talent for the further development of the team. He promoted young players in Southampton and Tottenham allowing them to cope under the pressure of a higher level of football.
However, his job at Paris-Saint Germain is not to promote young players, but to win serious titles and every game these high-profile players play. But, so far in his career, he has never dealt with big-money players who inherit huge egos and play for themselves rather than the name at the front of the shirt.
Mauricio Pochettino Salary And Contract At PSG
He currently has the highest win percentage at PSG as compared to the previous managers and his former projects. Pochettino has only lost 9 matches in his entire PSG career but has not managed to pull off the requirement of the silverware. He guided PSG to the Champions League semi-final but were knocked out by Man City. Meanwhile, they also lost the Ligue 1 title last season which was a major setback in the club’s history.
Mauricio Pochettino is contracted with Paris-Saint Germain till 2023 and earns a whopping €7 million as salary which cements his position in the top 10 earners. However, it is still lower than the former German coach Thomas Tuchel who bagged almost €9 million.
Ligue 1 Sack Race: PSG looking to dismiss Mauricio Pochettino, 3 names who can be the new manager
Paris-Saint Germain owners have injected a lot of state money into the project and demand serious results from the manager. Despite having all the money in the world, they have not been able to achieve what they strive for. This is the only good thing about the beautiful game of football that no amount of money can win you silverware. It’s the foundation and the playing style of the club which will bring titles and not money.
PSG hierarchy demands quick results and if Pochettino fails to provide them, then they will surely look for other options and it’s only fair in the given circumstances. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the list of options the PSG board has if they decide to sack Pochettino.
Ligue 1 2021-22 Sack Race: Have a look a the list of 4 potential candidates who can replace Mauricio Pochettino at PSG
1. Zinadine Zidane
PSG’s first option is Zinadine Zidane who has a huge experience of managing big egos and finds a way around those petty issues. Meanwhile, he also has many achievements on his resume guiding Real Madrid to 3 successive UEFA Champions League titles. However, it might be difficult to convince the former French footballer who knows that the job at PSG is very hectic as the boss demand quick result.
I think that he will not get dirty swimming in the black water and will respectfully reject the proposal.
2. Ronald Koeman
Former Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman was sacked last month and is out of a job for the rest of the season. However, he is not the kind of man I would personally trust under the dire circumstances of PSG who possess a tank full of money. It would be a really wrong option for PSG considering the coaching style of Koeman which is not entertaining.
He is a perfect manager for a mediocre club that needs to rebuild or has a limited amount of money.
3. Eric Tan Haag
Another Dutchman on the list is Eric Tan Haag who has recently evolved the Ajax side and has made them serious title contenders. His Ajax side reached the semi-finals of the 2019 UEFA Champions League humiliating Juventus and Real Madrid in their home stadiums. He has gained recognition all around the world for developing young players and has great tactical knowledge of the game. However, he recently signed a 2-year contract extension with the Dutch club because of which it will be difficult for PSG to get him on board.
4. Joachim Löw
German professional football manager Joachim Low is out of a job after the 2022 World Cup which was a disappointing campaign for Germany. However, nobody could take away their supremacy and dominance over the past few years in World football. They humiliated Brazil in the 2014 World Cup and dispatched Argentina in the final.
He could be an interesting choice for the PSG board who are looking all around the World for replacement.
