As Halid keeps things ambiguous in Chapter 63, things between the male and female leads will become increasingly difficult. Things have been a little hectic in the series, as we can see the characters have changed. Those alterations, however, do not feel organic and instead serve to provoke conflict between the two major characters.

Lacey was a devil-may-care femme Fatale who didn’t care what happened to her when the series began. Her attitude had landed her into a phony relationship with the monarch, who was a competitor of the prince she had duped. But, as time passed, she became closer to him, perhaps too close.
Their relationship was not going as well as it should have, and Lacey had chosen to leave him. The issue is that she does not want to be held accountable for ending the relationship and rather that the king do so in her place. But it appears like Halid wants to keep her around as eye candy while having a fling on the side.
In Chapter 62, Priestess Lacey assisted with the slum residents. Though she was performing her customary duties, her mind was elsewhere, causing her to appreciate them less. The servant she arrives with notices this and asks if she wants some fresh air.
Before she could say anything, the guy motioned for her to come to a halt as they approached the barrier. The barrier is something that surrounds the kingdom and prevents mutants from entering. However, the mutants who used to fear it have no reaction to its presence, and neither does Lacey.
