The actor passed away at the age of 74 and it is said to be due to age related ailments and health issues.

The cause of the actor’s death has not been revealed yet.

After beginning his career as an actor, he became the close aide to Stanley Kubrick and later started working as a personal assistant on his film projects.

The tragic news of the actor’s death was confirmed by Stanley Kubrick via his official social media.

Kubrick’s account posted a statement announcing the sad news which reads, “It is with the greatest of sadness that we have to tell you that the mainstay of a vast number of Kubrick’s films, Leon Vitali, passed away peacefully last night.

Our thoughts are with his family and all that knew and loved him. 26 July 1948 – 20 August 2022.”

Leon Vitali Personal Life

Leon Vitali had attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and soon after he started his acting career.

In the early 1970s, Vitali guest-appeared in several tv series such as Softly, Follyfoot, Roads to Freedom, Z Cars, Public Eye, The Fenn Street Gang, Notorious Woman among many others.

He also ventured into films and made his debut in 1973 with an Italian film named Super Bitch. The movie was directed by Massimo Dallamano.

Alongside Martin Sheen and Michael Gambon, Vitali also starred in a tv film called Catholics. However, he got a breakthrough from Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon.

In the film, he starred as Lord Bullington which gave a new direction to his career. After finishing the shooting of the film, he asked the director if he could observe the editing part as well, to which Kubrick agreed.

Which marked the beginning of a long and successful partnership between the duo. Later, he went on to assist the director in his hit film, The Shining.

He was also given the credits as the “personal assistant to the director” of the film. Soon after, he started handling major responsibilities for Kubrick’s projects such as casting, logistics and post-production.

Later, he starred as Red Cloak in the director’s last film, Eyes Wide Shut, in 1999.

After the death of Kubrick’s in 1998, he largely retired from production activities. However, he did oversee the restoration of many of the director’s films.

Vitali also helped in the launching of the directing career of his co-star Todd Field by serving as a technical consultant and associate producer on his first 2 feature films.

In a 2017 documentary of Kubrick’s life, he was also showcased. The documentary premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Speaking of his achievements, In 2004, Vitali was honored with the President’s Award by the Cinema Audio Society. He last acted in the 2013 film Romeo & Juliet in which he played the character of an apothecary.

Throughout his life he was married and divorced three times. Leon is survived by 3 children named Masha Vitali, Vera Vitali and Max Vitali. His net worth stood at $9 million.
