On Friday, the 2024 Laver Cup ignited with intensity during the first night session, as Grigor Dimitrov edged past Alejandro Tabilo 7-6(4), 7-6(2) in what many are calling one of the most thrilling matches in the tournament’s seven-year history. Dimitrov’s victory gave Team Europe a 2-1 lead heading into the weekend’s first doubles contest.
Later, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton delivered a pivotal performance for Team World, leveling the Laver Cup Berlin 2024 scoreboard at 2-2. In their match against first-time partners Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, the American duo triumphed 7-6(5), 6-4 in just over 90 minutes at the Uber Arena.
Earlier in the day, Francisco Cerundolo upset Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 to claim Team World’s first point, while Stefanos Tsitsipas countered for Team Europe, dispatching Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1, 6-4.
