The league of Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018. The tournament was originally scheduled to held in August 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, Ravin Wickramaratne was appointed as the director of the LPL.
Finally, the tournament was played from 26 November 2020 to 16 December. On November 5, the tournament was allowed to be held in the same month. All the matches were played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota.
LPL 2021 Teams and their Owners Name List
Colombo Stars : Colombo participated in 2020 season as Colombo Kings. The team was owned by a Dubai-based Indian businessman Murfad Mustafa. This year, the team was terminated due to financial issues. Now the team is owned by Softlogic Holdings run by Ashok Pathirage. They have changed their name form COlombo Kings to Colombo Stars.
Dambulla Giants : Previously knows as Dambulla Vikings, the team was owned by a famous Bollywood actor Sachiin J Joshi. They changed the name of the team thrice- Dambulla Hawks, Dambulla Lions and finalized Vikings in the space of 10 days. Just like Colombo, this team was terminated due to financial irregularities this year. Right now, the team is owned by HAMRO Foundation run by Qamar Khan.
Galle Gladiators : This team is owned by Karachi-based Omar Associates. They also own the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram is the mentor of the team while former wicket-keeper Moin Khan is the head coach. Pakistan’ former all-rounder Shahid Afridi was signed as a marquee foreign player in 2020.
Jaffna Kings : Just like Colombo and Dambulla, the owners of Jaffna are changed ahead of the 2021 Lanka Premier League. The team was owned by multiple people of Sri Lanka and India heritage from Australia, Canada, France, United Kingdom and the USA. This year, the team has been acquired by Lyca group, founded by British-Sri Lankan Tamilian Subaskaran Allirajah.
The director of the team is Ganeshan Vaheesan and the consultant is Hemang Badani. The head coach of the side is the former Sri Lanka cricketer Thilina Kandamby.
Kandy Warriors : Formerly known as Kandy Tuskers, the team was owned by a co-owned by a famous Bollywood actor Sohail Khan and Abbas Muni. Former players like Nuwan Kulasekara and Farveez Maharoof were appointed as bowling coach and managers respectively. Currently, this team is co-owned by Ravi Gupta (Safexpay) and Pankaj Tripathy (Vernost Technologies).
Head coach of the side is Lalchand Rajput and director of cricket operations is Atul Wassan.
