As the Lalbagh Mango Mela returns for 2022, know its dates, start date and timings

At a news conference in Bengaluru on Thursday, K.V. Nagaraj, chairman of the Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Ltd., was joined by C.G. Nagaraju, managing director, and other dignitaries.

Bengaluru will keep its date with one of its favorite mela after a two-year hiatus because of the epidemic. After much anticipation, the mango and jackfruit mela has returned to the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens this year, allowing mango fans to obtain fresh, naturally ripened mangoes at discounted prices.

After Two Years, The Mango And Jackfruit Mela Returns To Lalbagh

The Department of Horticulture and the Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Limited (KSMDMCL) are hosting the mela from May 27 to June 13 with a timing of 10am-6pm daily. There are no tickets for the festival with anyone allowed to visit and purchase for free.

This also marks the return of large-scale events to Lalbagh after COVID-19 forced the cancellation of all flower exhibitions. Including this year’s Republic Day show, and fruit mela in the previous two years.

The mango production in the state is only projected to be 6-8 lakh tonnes this year due to climatic circumstances and hormonal imbalance. However, according to Mr. Nagaraju, the quality of the fruit has not been adversely affected.

The Mango Board further stated that all of the mangoes sold at the mela were ripened using ethylene. Or natural processes rather than calcium carbide. In addition, the mela will solely employ biodegradable packing materials.

The 18-day mela will feature 30-40 types of mangoes as well as 10-12 varieties of jackfruit with red, yellow, and orange flowers. Mango vendors will be given 106 booths, while jackfruit vendors will be given 16 stalls. Those selling mango and jackfruit goods such as juice, chips, papad, and other items would be given eight booths. In addition, five kiosks for prominent mango vendors will be set up at Cubbon Park.
