Narumi is approached by a stalker, but her neighbor saves her and advises her to go up. He does not locate a stalker, but tells her that he will be there for her if she ever gets into difficulty.
The man opens Chapter 12 by remarking that the weather has turned cold and that Autumn is close by. He notices some noises and understands that his neighbor is awake.
He inquires if she is eating breakfast on the balcony. She says she is because she intends to eat the blueberries she has produced with some yogurt. He is awestruck by the diversity of plants she has growing on her balcony.
He tells her that If she wants to grow blueberries on the porch, she needs two different types of plants, and she quips that neighbors are necessary after all.
Narumi is dropped off near her home as she exits the train. She feels like she’s being followed as she walks back. She turns around to discover that her guess was correct. She flees, injuring her neighbor in the process.
