Match highlights
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI) at their home field, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in Match 5 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
Mumbai’s innings got off to a rough start after they were selected to bat, losing captain Rohit Sharma early for just 1 run off 10 balls. Despite their best efforts, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav were unable to significantly affect the innings’ stability.
Tilak Varma, however, performed an incredible inning, scoring 84 runs off just 46 balls, including 9 fours and 4 sixes. He contributed to the five-time champions’ competitive total of 171/7 in their 20 overs, along with Nehal Wadhera’s 21 off 13 balls and Arshad Khan’s 15 off 9 balls.
In retaliation, the Challengers got off to a strong start thanks to captain Faf du Plessis and ace Virat Kohli’s outstanding partnership. They both struck half-centuries, with du Plessis scoring 73 runs off 43 balls, including 5 fours and 6 sixes, and Kohli taking the lead with an unbeaten 82 runs off 49 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes.
The pair put together a 148-run stand for the next wicket to put Mumbai out of the match. Glenn Maxwell contributed a late flourish as RCB won in 16.2 overs.

KKR vs. RCB preview
On April 6, Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next game. The game will take place at Eden Gardens, and RCB arrived in Kolkata for it on Monday. Virat Kohli and captain Faf Duplessis appear to be getting along well. The only thing that went wrong for RCB in the first game was Reece Topley’s injury.
The left-arm pacer hurt his shoulder when he fell while fielding. He then rose off the ground after that. Topley might be unable to play against KKR as he was seen with his hand wrapped in a sling and secured when he arrived in Kolkata. He seems to be doubtful for the second game.
