The Kohinoor stone which is described as colourless or finest white, weighs around 105.6 carats. The origin of the diamond are a bit of controversial.
Some believed the diamond is mined either in Kollur mines of India while other says it is found in the mines of Golconda sometime around the 1300s.
Before it’s cutting, the amazing diamond was weighs around 793 carats. While in the hands of Kakatiya Dynasty, it is said to be weighed around 186 carats.

The Kohinoor Legend & History
There is powerful myth regarding the Kohinoor. Some says the legendary tone was a gift to earth from the God of Sun, Surya and the evidence of its existence can be seen in ancient Sanskrit writings that traced back to more than 5,000 years ago.
There is also a faith of Hindus around it as they say, the diamond was stolen from the God Krishna as he was sleeping, while others belived that it is the Syamantaka Jewel of Indian mythology.
Some even believe that the stone possess great magical powers.
The Kohinoor Diamond In India
It has been stated that whoever owned the stone will rule the world and indeed it was seen as the diamond has passed through several hands of famous heads of state.
As per historiana, the first time mentions of the stone is found in the memoirs of Moghul Empire founder and leader Babur at the 16ty century.
Babur had recorded a gem that seems similar to the Kohinoor among the treasures of Aladdin, saying it was won during a 1304 battle in Malawah.
However the actual origins of the sone are murky. Some speculate the stone was originally mined out of Kollur mine, which is found on the south bank of the Krishna River in India.
The Kohinoor remained in the possession of Mughal Empire between the 1500s and 1600s. At the time, it was supposedly at its original weight i.e, 793 carats.
Unfortunately, the stone was poorly cut by the Emperor’s jeweler, Hortense Borgia who was later punished after reducing its size to 186 carats.
The stone passed through several generations of Ahmed Shah’s family in 1830 after being deposed to a grandson of Shah, Shujah Shah Durrani, who went to Lahore to request an Indian King to help him win back his throne.
The king asked him Kohinoor in return of help. To which Shah denied, however, the King threatened him nd Shah finally gave the stone up, and the king helped him in return.
However, when the King, Ranjit Singh was on his deathbed, his family fought over to protect the treasure earned by him, however Singhโs treasurer Beli Ram wound up hiding the jewel in a vault rather than donating it to a temple in Puri, which some believed was Singhโs true wish for the Kohinoor Diamond.
Later when the King Ranjit died in 1839 leaving the throne empty which led to assassinations and other questionable signs of imperial stability. The Britisher raised their flag in Lahore in 1849 and proclaimed the Punjab region as part of the British Empire in England.
At the time a 13-year-old new King named Duleep Singh made an impressive yet controversial “gift” to Britainโs Queen Victoria.
He presented her Majesty’s with the Kohinoor Diamond and the Timur Ruby in 1850.
After coming in the hands of British ruler, Kohinoor was cut down in 1852 by the orders of Prince Albert. Although it’s size was reduced but it gained in brilliance a fair tradeoff, at least for Prince Albert.
It took 38 days to cut the diamond and it cost the crown ยฃ8,000. The total weight of the stone went down from 186 old carats to 105.6 carats, which is it’s current weight.
The stone was set in a brooch, which Queen Victoria used to wore. Later it was set in 2 Queen’s consorts’ after Queen Victoria died.
In 1937 the stone was set in the Royal British Crown along with 2,800 other diamonds.
Price of the Kohinoor
More than half a century ago the Kohinoor diamond price was at $200 million USD and The Royal British Crown laden with diamonds stolen from countries itself is said to be worth somewhere between $10 and $12.7 billion, and the Kohinoor is one of the most incredible of the 2,800 diamonds it contains and its is envisaged to be worth atleast $1 billion today and it is the most expensive diamond on the Earth till date.
The diamond is a 186 carat diamond with a curse affecting only men. According to folklore, a Hindu description of the diamond warns that โhe who owns this diamond will own the world, but will also know all its misfortunes and only God or a woman can wear it with impunity.
