Know Why The Jules Kounde Transfer From Sevilla To Chelsea Fell Through And His Contract And Release Clause

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde failed to join Chelsea on Deadline Day, know what happend between the two clubs and Kounde’s contract and release clause

While Chelsea was quite active in the final hours of the transfer window, they missed out on one of their major targets. Despite being heavily linked to a London transfer over the past several weeks, defender Jules Koundé ended up staying at Sevilla. This apparently happened due to some serious miscommunication between the two sides. Read on to know what led to Chelsea pulling out of Jules Koundé transfer and Sevilla director Monchi’s comments.

What Made Chelsea Pull Out of The Jules Kounde Transfer From Sevilla And His Contract At Sevilla

Chelsea seemed to have believed that they would get the deal done at around €50m. However, Sevilla was never quite up to deal at this price. So while it appeared to Chelsea that Sevilla had shifted the goalposts in the final week, the Spanish club simply did not meet the asking price of the English. This also happened last summer with Manchester City.

Chelsea were not so happy to pay above the odds when Sevilla had demanded that they meet his €80 million release clause. This means that The Blues will now enter the season without signing any defender. This is a risk since they sold Kurt Zouma to West Ham for £28.9 million earlier. However, Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Trevoh Chalobah will be staying for the season so Chelsea is not so light at the back.

What Did Sevilla Director Monchi Have To Say?

Sevilla director Monchi (Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo) had confirmed that Chelsea and Koundé were both interested in doing the transfer. They had told the team what they needed to do to complete the signing on Deadline Day.

Monchi said that Sevilla responded with a counter-offer which had a deadline of Friday, to allow them to be able to sign a replacement, but Chelsea did not respond to that counter-offer before Friday. “Koundé’s clause never went up to €90m. It has always been €80m,” he stated as he talked about the player’s contract at the club.
