Kieron Pollard will lead Mumbai Indians in CSK vs MI as Rohit Sharma misses out along with Hardik Pandya and Sam Curran
Fresh off India’s tour of England, Mumbai Indians’ captain and opener, Rohit Sharma failed to make the cut for MI in their showdown against Chennai Super Kings today.
Know Why Are Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya And Sam Curran Not Playing CSK vs MI Today
Rohit misses out for Mumbai owing to fitness concerns with the player seen walking gingerly on the pitch prior to the toss.
In the player’s absence, West Indian Kieron Pollard has been tasked with leading the side out in what is considered the El Classico of the Indian Premier League. Mumbai were also without the services of Hardik Pandya with him being left out of the playing 11 altogether.
Not a part of India’s test setup, Pandya’s absence makes for bewildering viewing. There was recent noise about him finally being fully fit to send down his overs with the ball as well with him managing to take up duties in India’s tour of Sri Lanka.
However, there’s been no update on why Pandya failed to make an appearance for Mumbai today as IPL 2021 resumes in UAE. For the all-rounder, the remainder of the marquee league is a crucial period as he vies to justify his selection in India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad and arrest his tanking form.
Chennai Super Kings meanwhile see Sam Curran sit out with the English player landing in UAE only shortly before today evening’s tie. Although Curran was dropped for the 4th ENG vs IND test match with Chris Wood filling in for him, the all-rounder’s departure from England was delayed.
CSK will be batting first on the day after winning the toss and opting to send Mumbai in to field.
