Though this is not the first time that Dorji is going to be associated with a tournament or a match in India as Dorji post his initial years in Darjeeling, the 22-year-old participated in the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai in 2018 and 2019 where he also got a chance to meet the Chennai Super Kings and former Indian legend MS Dhoni.

The 22-year Mikyo Dorji in an interview said showing his excitement, “Playing in the IPL is an ultimate dream for me. People say that there was one player on the auction list from Bhutan and my friends started calling me. But they don’t know that this is just the initial round, and the names are going to be shortlisted further.”

It remains to be seen if he does indeed get a call up from an IPL team owing to the short-lived career he’s had on the big stage. Nonetheless, the move is a massive stride for Bhutan in the cricketing fraternity.
