The symbolic gesture is made by the staff and players to put an end to the racism that keeps on taking place from time to time. The taking the knee symbol states that Black Lives Do Matter.

The entire football community presently is sparked with a massive debate. However many players from the football community have denied kneeling as according to them this practice is degrading. A player from the Crystal Palace named Wilfred stated that instead of kneeling players should rather practice standing tall against all racist activities. The football fans say that this kneeling gesture is important if racism fights need to be fought.

How Fans are reacting to the gesture in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement to tackle racism

The taking the knee gesture was seen back in the year 2016 for the first time by Colin Kaepernick during American NFL. He portrayed this gesture when the American national anthem was played. Since then this symbol has been widely adopted by people to put an end to all racist acts taking place against black people across the globe. The death of George Floyd made it a global affair and many people joined hands with the football community.

Almost 80% of fans of football in Britain are aware of the significance of this particular gesture whereas the percentage in Scotland, Wales, and England is 88%, 92%, and 90% respectively.

When premier Leagues players performed the kneeling actions, more fans started supporting them. Also, football fans last year over the Etihad Stadium flew a banner that stated “White Lives Matter”. More than 79% of fans support the kneeling action whereas still there are few who are against it completely. Italian and Spanish football fans have also come forward and they have shown tremendous support.
