In the last few days, the photos of Hidilyn Diaz, her hands and victorious moments have gone viral on the internet after her gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics

Professional photographers have shared photos of her hands on social media.

Diaz had lifted the 127kg barbell and had screamed ecstatically. She was seen wearing a mask, was in tears and saluted with her hands with “Lupang Hinirang” played in the background” while she was being awarded her first filipino Olympic gold medal.

The photos shared by professional photographers showed that the player was in pain. She has gone through a lot of difficulties to reach where she is now.

During a recent interview with ANCX, Paolo del Rosario, sports writer and Cignal TV host, also took the photo and shared it on Instagram, said, “The photo was taken after Hidilyn gave media interviews at the Olympics village, the next morning after her win.”

How did the photos of her hands went viral?

Paolo not just was able to click the photos of her hands but was also fortunate enough to see the match, where Diaz was lifting 127 barbell and also saw her medal ceremony. He then later asked her to show him her hands.

She very proudly showed him her hands. Recalling the whole experience, Paulo in an interview with ANCX said, “I was always interested to know the tools athletes used to conduct their trade.”

It turns out the gold medalist’s hands were covered with both old and new wounds. She told him that there were more wounds than what were visible.

Wounds on her hands

The photo was taken with the help of his  camera phone. He was not convinced that those wounds were fresh wounds. Speaking about the same, he said, “I think the callouses were expected, but all these wounds tell us about how much she had to go through, while she was competing for the country’s first gold medal.”

Hidilyn was in Malaysia for her isolation training, which lasted for a year, and she also kept her body and mind in the best shape. She used to miss her family a lot, who is living in Zamboanga.
