Kevin Anderson started his professional back in 2003 and gained his first grand slam entry five years later in 2008 in Australia. The same year, the towering tennis player represented South Africa at the Beijing Olympics. However, in the singles round, Anderson reached the second round and exited in the second with Jeff Coetzee.

The South African won the inaugural New York Open tournament in 2018, clinching his fourth ATP title and winning his fifth soon after. Later that year, Anderson became the first South African since Kevin Curren in 1985 to reach the Wimbledon men’s singles final. Though he lost to Djokovic in straight sets, Anderson rose to another career-high of number five.

The following year his sixth ATP title followed at the Maharashtra Open in Pune as the first seed. But his grand slam performances over the next two years remained unimpressive. Since 2019, Anderson’s best outing in grand slams has been to reach the third round of Wimbledon and French Open 2019 and 2020 respectively.

However, by winning the prestigious Hall of Fame Open at Newport, Kevin Anderson has the chance to raise his world standing. Though Anderson struggled, clinching the title as an eighth seed is a significant achievement.
