Born in Sanand, Gujarat, Harshal Patel, the 30-year-old right-arm medium bowler is the captain of Haryana in the Ranji Trophy. An expert in outswingers, Patel took 23 wickets at an amazing average in the 2008-09 Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Patel made his one-day debut for Gujarat in 2009–10 after participating in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy.
Harshal’s family initially wanted to move to the USA, but thanks to his brother Tapan Patel who convinced his parents and made sure that Harshal remained in India for a career in cricket. Harshal was selected in the team for the 2010 U-19 World Cup held in New Zealand. He was among three players from that squad to acquire an IPL deal, with the Mumbai Indians.
