Khelo India Youth Games 2023 swimming, hockey, athletics and football results and schedule

Day 9 of the Khelo India Youth Games KIYG 2023 saw Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Odisha all securing a semi-final in the Boys and Girls hockey competition, check out the roundup of all the other events along with the swimming, kabaddi and athletics results

MP scooped all the available golds in Water Slalom while the North Eastern states won all available golds in weightlifting

Maharashtra are currently leading the medal tally with 31 golds while MP replaced Haryana (23 golds) in the second spot with 25 golds.

Hockey semi-final lineups drawn

MP secured a semi-final spot with an impressive win in the boy’s hockey over Bihar, while Haryana beat Mizoram. Jharkhand also won in both the final boys’ and girls’ category after taking out their Uttar Pradesh (UP) counterparts.

As a result, Jharkhand will face Odisha in both the first boys’ and girls’ semifinals. Meanwhile MP will face Punjab in the other Boys semis and their girls will take on Haryana in the second Girls semi-final.

Kho Kho semi-final lineups drawn

Day 9 of the KIYG 2023 finalized the semi-final lineups in Girls Kho Kho. Haryana will face Bihar, while Himachal will clash against Maharashtra on Wednesday.

Madhya Pradesh sweeps Water Slalom golds

Vishal Sharma and Bhumi Baghel both of MP dominated the Water Slalom competition comfortable margins. S Karthika of Karnataka came in behind with silver in the men’s category, while Nagidhi Gayathri of Andhra won silver in the boy’s. Meanwhile, Maharashtra won bronze in the Girls’ category while Andhra won bronze in the boys.

Fencing competitions begin

The KIYG 2023 fencing competition began on day 9 at the Jabalpur’s Ranital Sports complex. Jammu & Kashmir’s international fencer, Shreya Gupta, took out Manipur’s Laishram Abi to win the Girls individual fencing competition.

In the Boys’ category, Bihar’s Akash Kumar defeated Maharashtra’s Tejas Patil for the Boys individual Foil gold. Gujarat’s Mandipsinh Gohil won bronze. Meanwhile, in the Boys Epee individual, Telangana’s Lokesh Vemani won gold. Khuman Laishram Thoungamba of West Bengal won silver while Neer of Haryana won bronze.

Swimming

In the KIYG 2023 Swimming competition held at the Prakash Tarun Pushkar pool in Bhopal, junior India athletes Vedaant Madhavan and Apeksha Fernandes won golds. Maharashtra’s Vedaant and Apeksha won the Boys 200m freestyle and Girls 100m breaststroke respectively.

Madhavan prevents Northeast sweep of weightlifting golds

Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Hashika Ramchandran (Girls 200m breaststroke), Rajasthan’s Abhinandan Khandelwal (Boys 100m breaststroke) and Maharashtra’s Shubhankar Patki (Boys 50m fly) all won gold in their respective categories.

In the weightlifting competition, North Eastern states had the chance to sweep all the weightlifting golds on day 9 of KIYG 2023. However, Tamil Nadu’s T. Madhavan, won the gold in the Boys’ 67kg. Assam’s Panchami Sonowal won gold in the Girls’ 49kg while Arunachal Pradesh’s Shankar Lapung and Boni Mangkhya won the Boys 61kg and the Girls 55kg respectively.

Seeds move into Tennis semis

In the Tennis competition Gujarat top seed Aryan Shah, will move into the semis of the Boys singles following a win against Tamil Nadu’s Gagan Rakesh Vimal at the Indore Tennis Club. Meanwhile, the other qualified players are second seed Daksh Prasad, Karnataka’s Jason Michael David, and Tamil Nadu’s Pranav Karthik.

In the Girls’ singles category, Karnataka second seed Suhitha Murarai, Maharashtra’s third seed Madhurima Sawant and S. Patil, and Delhi’s Tejasvi Dabas will move on into the semifinals.

Football semi-finals

Day 10 of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 will also feature the Boys semi-final clashes in football. Punjab will go head-to-head against Karnataka in the first semifinal at the Emerald Heights while Kerala will take on Meghalaya

Meanwhile at the Mulna stadium in Balaghat, West Bengal will take on Arunachal in the first Girls football semi-final. The second match will feature the hosts MP against Manipur.
