2023 KIYG Day โ 5 seven sporting disciplines conclude
The Day five of the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 saw the conclusion of seven sporting disciplines. Firstly, in Kayaking and Canoeing, MP, Odisha and Kerala jointly won three gold medals. Meanwhile, Haryana and West Bengal won gold in the Boys and Girls volleyball respectively.
At the same time, the final matches of the Table Tennis singles took place at Abhay Prashal in Indore. West Bengalโs Ankur Bhattacharjee and Maharashtraโs Taneesha Kotecha won gold in the Boys and Girls respectively.
The MP Badminton Academy simultaneously hosted the Badminton finals where
Haryanaโs Divika Sihag won gold in the Girls category and Telanganaโs K. Lokesh Reddy won gold in the Boys category.
On day 5, Yogasana, introduced only this year, concluded with MP wining gold. Archery and Kho Kho too concluded at the Ranital Sports complex in Jabalpur. In the Archery recurve competitions Rajasthanโs Rampal Choudhary defeated West Bengalโs Juyel Sarkar 6-2 in the final for gold. Ridhi of Haryana won the Girls recurve with a 6-2 win over state-mate Bhajan Kaur. In fact, it was 1-2-3 Haryana as Tisha Punia won bronze.
The Compound Archery events also concluded after Haryanaโs Kushal Dalal won gold with a 147-141 win over Andhraโs T.G. Mani Ratnam in the Boys category. For the Girls, Maharashtraโs Aditi Gopichand Swami beat Rajasthanโs Priya Gurjar to win gold. In the Mixed category, MPโs Sonia Thakur and Amit Kumar won gold after defeating Maharashtraโs Bishal and Manjuri.
The last competition that concluded at the Ranital Sports Complex, was Kho Kho. Maharashtra beat Delhi in the Boys final to win gold, while Odisha won gold by beating Maharashtra in the finals. In the Boys category, Odisha won bronze while Karnataka won the same in the Girls category.
A standout day for Athletics
Day five was a standout day for Athletics competitions as it took the centre stage with the first gold of the day. Shailabh of Delhi won gold at the Boys 1500m, which was also the first medal event of a three-day track & field roster. Sakir of Haryana came in second, while Sumit Kumar of Telangana took bronze.
For the Girls category, Asha Kiran Barla of Jharkhand took gold, ahead of Bushra Khan of M.P. Laxita Sandilea of Gujarat won third place. Other notable winners included Madhya Pradeshโ Aditya Raghuvanshi, who won gold in the Boys High Jump, Vidhi of UP won the Girls gold in Shot Put. Haryana won the Boys Hammer throw, Maharashtraโs Isha Rajesh Yadav won gold in the Girls 400m while Abiram P of Kerala won Gold in the Boysโ category. Odishaโs Sabita Toppo jumped 5.73m to win gold in the Girls long jump.

Among the states, Maharashtra and Haryana clearly dominated over the games on Day 5 of the KIYG 2022-23. Maharashtra won 16 medals in total in Yogasana, which included five gold medals. Haryana on the other hand won four medals in cycling, including three golds.
Maharashtra are currently on top due to having more silvers, despite having the same medal tally of 14 golds with the hosts Madhya Pradesh (MP).
KIYG 2022-23 Upcoming Day six attractions
One of the main attractions for day six will be the 20 finals in Boxing which will take place throughout the day at the T.T. Nagar stadium. Day six will also feature the Basketball finals at the Basketball complex in Indore. Gatka, the traditional martial art discipline will also conclude on day six.
