The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur along with Lieutenant Governor J&K, Manoj Sinha, on Saturday, February 4, 2023, launched the third mascot, theme song name and jersey of Khelo India Winter Games
As per the official website of the government, apart from the Union Minister and LG, there were also other dignitaries present at the Raj Bhawan, Jammu.

The Games are scheduled to be held from February 10 to 14, 2023. As per reports approximately 1,500 athletes from 29 states and UTs are believed to participate in the games which will be held in Gulmarg.
This year’s mascot, the snow leopard, depicts the vibrant heritage of the Himalayas and it also reiterates the administration’s commitment towards their conservation.

These participants will play across 9 sports events. During the launch ceremony, the Union Minister, Thakur stated that these winter games are a part of Khelo India Abhiyaan, which is a vision of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to encourage the youth of the nation towards sports and to make our nation an emerging soft sports power on the global foot.
The Khelo India Winter Games is supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and is organized by the J&K Sports Council as well as the Winter Games Association, J&K and the 1st edition of the Khelo India Winter Games took place in 2020 and Jammu and Kashmir have come on top in both editions of the games so far.

Furthermore, the Union Minister, also added that in the last 8 years, the mindset of netizen’s have considerably changed towards the youth’s participation in the games and it has been possible through the Khelo India Abhiyan, Fit Indian Campaign, which was launched by the PM, Modi.
He continued to praise our PM, Modi, as he stated that our PM has not only refined the sports infrastructure in India but is also encouraging youth towards games especially via interactions with the players.
Let us remind you, the Khelo India Winter Games were started back in 2020 and are organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council along with the Winter Games association of J&K.
The main attraction of this year’s mega event will includes sports events likes:
Snowshoe Race,
Ice Skating,
Ice Hockey,
Skiing,
Nordic Ski,
Snowboarding,
Ski Mountaineering
Ice stock, among many others.
The event which will last for 5 days will feature a total of 9 sports events. So far, the host Jammu and Kashmir topped on both editions and is all geared up for its third edition.
As per the statement given by the authorities, the event will go a long way and will further increase the tourists footfall in the world-famous Ski destination, Gulmarg.
They also believe that the Khelo India Winter Games 2023 will give a flip to Adventure tourism in the J&K.
