Khelo India Games 2023 schedule, host state, venue and sports list

Greater Noida under Gautam Buddh Nagar district has been conformed as one of the venues set to host the Khelo India Games 2023, find out more details below.

The event will have feature four national-level multidisciplinary grassroots games. These include, Kabaddi, basketball, weightlifting and fencing.

Around 800 students and technical staff are expected to participate in the inter-university level edition of the competitions.

Greater Noida to host the games

According to reports, four districts under UP will host the Khelo India Games 2023. Gautam Buddha Nagar is one of those districts along with Varanasi, Lucknow and Gorakhpur. The Gautam Buddha University (GBU) and Shaheen Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Stadium (SVSPSS) located in Greater Noida will host the games in April or May later this year.

Ahead of the competition, GBU has began preparations for the event began with officials and volunteers setting up the indoor stadium for the various games and the hostel facility meant for visiting players. Meanwhile GNIDA have started the repair and maintenance work prior to the event at both of its venues.

Large number of student participants

Deputy Sports Officer of GB Nagar Anita Nagar Hoon stated:

“Two venues in Greater Noida have been selected for Khelo India, which will be held sometime in April or May. These include Gautam Buddha University and Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Stadium. While weightlifting competition will take place in the indoor stadium in GBU; kabaddi, basketball and fencing will spread out at both SVSPSS and GBU”

Ms. Nagar further confirmed that around 4,500 students will participate in the event from 150 universities across the four districts. Out of those 4500 students, 800 students are from GB Nagar. Meanwhile she revealed that around 400 students and over 400 technical team members will take charge of looking into the technical aspects of all the games.

Dev Kumar Meena of Madhya Pradesh broke a national level record in Pole vault on day 5 of the KIYG 2023. The youngster recorded a 4.91m jump in boy’s pole vault, breaking the previous record held by Rakesh Gond at 4.90m.

Maharashtra in the lead

Currently, Maharashtra are in the lead in the medals tally as of day 5 in the ongoing KIYG 2023. Despite having the same amount of gold medals as MP, i.e. 14, they have won more silvers.
