As per Rutter, “The Honours is frequently referred to by prior recipients as the summit of prizes since it values an artist’s cumulative body of work and influence over many decades. Rather than simply one performance, record, or film. This degree of differentiation is significant. With this all-encompassing perspective, each year’s awardees contribute a new layer to the intricate and moving mosaic of artists. This collectively tells the tale of our shared impact on world culture.”

He concluded by saying, “The Kennedy Centre’s namesake would undoubtedly smile at this celebration. It moves us closer to his vision of “an America which will reward achievement in the arts as we reward achievement in business or statecraft, as the Centre wraps up its year-long 50th-anniversary celebration.”
