On Monday, July 4th, the pop artist used Twitter to share her disappointment with the US Supreme Court’s judgment on women’s rights on abortion.

There has been a lot of backlash on social media since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Many celebrities have also come forward and said they won’t be celebrating the US Independence anniversary on the Fourth of July in the wake of the decision.
The backlash towards Katy Perry is the result of the 37-year-old previously endorsing billionaire entrepreneur and real estate developer, Rick Caruso for Los Angeles mayor. Caruso might now be pro-choice, but he is known to support anti-abortion laws. He has also provided aid to the National Republican Congressional Committee in 2017. Caruso was called out by Planned Parenthood Organization to apologize for funding anti-abortion rights candidates after the overturn abortion-rights decision Roe v. Wade.
The singer was one of the stars who stood against the Roe v Wade court ruling. On the occasion of July 4th, she tweeted, “‘Baby you’re a firework’ is a 10 but women in the US have fewer rights than an actual sparkler smh,” to her 108 million followers.
The tweet was written in a sarcastic tone, with her taking a jab at the ruling by referencing the lyrics of her referencing her 2010 track. While some praised her for her stand, she got called out by many netizens who called her a hypocrite.
Her tweet was followed by many such comments like, “Rick Caruso has supported many government mandated forced birth candidates and you support him. You’re much dimmer than a sparkler.”
One Twitter user also noted that other celebrities like the Kardashians, George Lopez, and Snoop Dogg along with Katy Perry have spoken against the Supreme Court’s decision but have supported and endorsed anti-abortionists during mayor elections.
