The Indian National Congress has finally prevailed in the Karnataka elections, taking 135 of the state’s 224 assembly seats.
Siddaramaiah was officially chosen as the Congress Legislative Party’s (CLP) leader and Karnataka’s chief minister at a meeting on Thursday. He then submitted his claim to the governor, who invited him to form the government. Reportedly, D.K. Shivakumar will serve as his only deputy.
AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala and two other central observers—former Maharashtra chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh—also joined the newly elected Congress MLAs, MLCs, and MPs at the meeting, which was held at Bengaluru’s Indira Gandhi Bhavan.

Siddaramaiah is a well-known Indian politician and has been associated with the Indian National Congress party. He has been in the news because he was chosen as the new Karnataka chief minister on Thursday.
He was born on August 3, 1947, in Siddaramana Hundi, Kingdom of Mysore, British India (present-day Karnataka, India). His father’s name is Siddarame Gowda, while his mother’s name is Boramma; both were farmers. He also has five siblings and belongs to the Kuruba Gowda community.
After completing his schooling, Siddaramaiah did a B. Sc. from Yuvaraja College, Mysore. Later, he earned an LL.B. from Sarada Vilas College.
He is married, and his wife’s name is Parvathi. They are the parents of two sons named Rakesh and Yathindra. While his elder son Rakesh died at age 38 after suffering from multiple organ failure, his younger son Yathindra is a politician who is currently MLA from Varuna seat in Mysuru.
Siddaramaiah has almost 50 criminal charges filed against him up to 2019. Several details of these incidents are unknown, although Siddaramaiah is renowned for making contentious claims. He once said that Hindutva advocates murder, violence, and prejudice, which sparked a great deal of uproar. He is currently 75 years old.
His career
After graduating from law school in 1978, Nanjunda Swamy, a lawyer from Mysore, noticed Siddaramaiah in the district courts and encouraged him to enter politics. He requested Siddaramaiah to run, and he was chosen to represent the Mysore Taluka.
Later, he was elected to the 7th Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1983 after running on a Bharatiya Lok Dal ticket from the Chamundeshwari district. Subsequently, he became a member of the ruling Janata Party. Due to his disagreements with H. D. Deve Gowda, he was dismissed from the Janata Dal in 2005.
He then attempted to form the “ABPJD,” a regional political organization but was unsuccessful in doing so. He then joined the Congress Party and won the Chamundeshwari bypolls in December 2006.
After representing the Varuna Assembly constituency from 2008 to 2018, he currently represents the Badami Assembly constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Over the years, Siddaramaiah held a number of positions in various departments in the state of Karnataka during the course of his lengthy political career, including those of Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, Finance Minister, Minister for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry, Minister of Veterinary Services and Animal Husbandry, Transport Minister, and Minister for Higher Education.
When Congress implemented secret balloting to choose the next chief minister in 2013, he was elected as the chief minister of Karnataka. Recently, he was again chosen to become Karnataka’s chief minister for the second time.
