Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Hits Out At LeBron James For Comparing COVID-19 To The Flu And Common Cold

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was far from impressed with Lakers man LeBron James claiming the common cold, flu and COVID-19 were all same

At a time when the US has been taken hostage by the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the last thing the country needs are people trying to underestimate the severity of the new variant. Ever since the pandemic has made a foray, the US has been persistently fraught by a hoard of cases with a slow vaccination rate, anti-vaxxers and people flouting Coronavirus norms at will all contributing to the surge in positive cases.

At a time when the country needs its notable names to step to the fore and urge people to adhere to social distancing rules, LeBron James decided to use his stature to try and spread wrong information about the virus. He went onto compare COVID-19 to the common cold and flu, sending out a viral post inspired by Spiderman.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Unimpressed With LeBron James Promoting COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy

However, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been far from impressed with the Los Angeles Lakers’ man school of thought. He took to his site to lash out at James, asking the Lakers man to promote the vaccine for the flu if he indeed was so perturbed by the disease.

“To directly address LeBron’s confusion, no one thinks colds and the flu aren’t serious. In the 2019-2020 flu season, 400,000 people were hospitalized and 22,000 people died. In 2020, 385,428 people died of COVID-19, while so far in 2021, 423,558 have died in the U.S., for a total of 808,986 deaths.

“Experts agree that COVID-19 is at least 10 times more lethal than the flu. As for the common cold, death is extremely rare.”

“LeBron James, if you’re concerned about the flu, then help promote the flu vaccination. In the 2019-2020 flu season, only 51.8% in the U.S. were vaccinated, well below the 70% that is the target. Worse, the vaccination rate is 20% lower among Blacks than whites and as a result, they have the highest hospitalization rate due to flu of any other group. This is due to vaccination hesitancy that your meme promotes,” Kareem went onto say as he hit out at LeBron.
