The Vijayanagara Patriots, led by Pradeep Bogadi, had a very busy day on February 25 despite Real Star Upendra not playing. His team played two qualifying matches and then the championship game. Earlier today, Pradeep had led his team to a successful chase and victory, but they were unable to produce an intimidating target for J Karthik’s Rashtrakuta Panthers.
Surprisingly, the game’s regulations allowed the Patriots to go to the championship game against Daali Dhananjaya’s Ganga Warriors even though they were unable to defend their 99-point total. The squad captained by Darling Krishna is the only one to have won both of its qualification games in this tournament.
Ganga Warriors vs Vijayanagara Patriots
Upendra’s Vijayanagara Patriots managed to score a pathetic 81 runs in their third game of the day. The Ganga Warriors beat the target of 82 with about three overs remaining. The Vijayanagara Patriots struggled from the moment they took the field to set a target, as the Ganga Warriors used some excellent bowling and fielding to limit the former to only 81 runs in 10 overs, making the final the lowest scored match of the competition. The Patriots currently hold the record for posting today’s two lowest scores.
Suresh Raina and captain Darling Krishna started the chase after Suresh Raina bowled one over, took two wickets, and assisted in the dismissals of two other Patriots players earlier in the Patriots’ innings. To get the game over with as soon as possible, Raina started off by hitting four consecutive boundaries off the bowling of Pradeep Bogadi. Even though the tournament was merely casual for the international cricketers but Raina showed why he is called a big game player.
Even Krishna did not let himself be left behind. He scored 11 runs off the first three balls he faced. When Krishna was bowled in the fourth over with the score at 42, the partnership was broken. Yet Raina persisted in leading the way despite that. Karan Aaryan (13 of 9) provided valuable assistance as Raina scored 54 to give the Ganga Warriors a well-earned victory.
