Since joining City for £45 million from Leeds in July 2022, Phillips has only made 31 appearances, and Pep Guardiola stated in December that he does not see the England midfielder playing for his squad.

Many clubs had been linked to Kalvin Phillips

The 28-year-old has the option to sign a long-term contract with the Hammers, but it now appears that he will be leaving the Etihad temporarily. Along with the rest of the team, Phillips took a Tuesday flight back from Manchester City’s warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi. This week, a physical is scheduled to take place.

This month, City was approached by Crystal Palace and Newcastle over a possible move; Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus were also rumoured to be interested. After making just two starts in the Premier League the previous year, Phillips has not managed to start at all this season.

However, West Ham’s loan agreement for Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City has gone well and is nearly complete. Even though Phillips declined the chance to leave the Etihad last summer, the team’s severe lack of playing time—which persisted even throughout Rodri’s suspension—has now sent a clear message to him.

Salary and loan fees

Amidst uncertainties surrounding his involvement with England at Euro 2024, Phillips has acknowledged the need to look for a transfer out. Links to Barcelona were, in reality, unfounded. Newcastle resisted Man City’s hefty demands despite being a serious contender to capture the holding midfield player.

It is believed that City was pursuing a loan fee in the region of £7 million, and they want the loaning club to cover Phillips’ whole wage, which is said to be approximately £135,000 per week. To West Ham’s satisfaction, Juventus lingered but never took any action. Currently, a deal has been reached, according to numerous reliable sources, including David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano.

Kalvin Phillips earns £165,000 per week, £8,580,000 per year playing for Manchester City as a DM. Kalvin Phillips’s net worth is £23,036,000.

Is there any buy option in summer?

Phillips is set to join West Ham on a six-month loan. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano announced on X that there is a buy option for June included in Kalvin Phillips’ loan contract with West Ham in response to questions from West Ham supporters.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany estimated the option’s value to be about €40 million, or roughly £34.2 million. He added that West Ham had agreed to pay a loan charge, but it wasn’t made clear if it was the full £7 million that City had originally sought.

Ornstein said the medical would happen on Thursday, but Romano claimed it was scheduled for Wednesday. Whatever the situation, it’s certain that a physical will happen within the next 48 hours and that Phillips will receive his full pay during his tenure at West Ham. However, the breakout of pay between City and West Ham has not been received yet.

The winter transfer window is now open and will end on Thursday, February 1st, at midnight in Scotland and 11 p.m. in England. Follow TSG to read the ins and outs regarding daily transfer news and rumours.
