What Exactly Happened in Chapter 13
Chapter 13, titled Elite, began with Genichi Sojo watching the Kamunabi members and desiring a higher test of his blade than facing Shiba and Azami. To avoid unintended consequences, one of the elite members stepped forward and built a stone platform for aerial combat.
This chapter included multiple flashbacks starring Chihiro Rokuhira, who briefed the team on Cloud Gouger’s three abilities—Water, Ice, and Lightning—through the Enchanted Blade. In addition to forewarning them of Sojo’s “Charge” move, he devised a flawless strategy to foil its use.
The members of the Kamunabi squad attacked Sojo one after the other in a series of attacks, as Chihiro had suggested, to prevent him from demonstrating the Charge. The mob boss instead used a devastating area-of-effect move that he created by combining Water and Lightning.
Nonetheless, the Kamunabi had foreseen precisely that. Due to the Lightning’s ten-second cooldown, the elite team immediately countered Sojo’s combination assault with their own unique tactics. Put simply, they heeded Chihiro’s counsel and managed to outwit and vanquish Sojo.
In this episode, we witnessed Sojo and Kamunabi square off, and Chihiro learned Char’s true whereabouts from the vanquished guard. The evidence he uncovered pointed to a laboratory located beneath the hideout as the location of the little girl’s confinement. But the laboratory was guarded by a number of formidable sorcerers.
After that, Chihiro recalled what his father had said regarding the Enchanted Blades, such as how their users can transcend their theoretical limitations. A double-spread page showcasing Sojo and Chihiro marked the chapter’s end.
