In the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 final on Thursday, the Indian hockey team narrowly defeated Pakistan 2-1 to successfully defend its championship. Both teams looked dangerous early on during the match at the Salalah Sports Complex in front of a nearly full house, but India eventually got on the board thanks to Angad Bir Singh’s goal in the 13th minute. Five minutes into the second quarter, Indian ace Araijeet Singh Hundal doubled the advantage.

Pakistan continued to attack, but the Indian defense stood up to the challenge. However in the 38th minute, Abdul Shahid’s frantic cross-field shot found Basharat Ali’s deflection and made it 2-1. Owing to Pakistan’s persistent strikes in search of an equalizer, Indian defense found themselves under pressure but Indian goalkeeper Mohith thwarted every offensive play from the Pakistani team. Ultimately, the match ended 2-1 in favor of India and they secured their fourth Junior Asia Cup.
