2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 7 – Julius Baer Generation Cup Format, Schedule, Date, Time, & Participants
Julius Baer Generation Cup’s round-robin rounds will use a 3 point for a victory, 1 point for a tie scoring system, and participants will receive cash prizes for each rapid game played. For a win, the players will receive $750, and for a tie, $250. Julius Baer Generation Cup is split into four days of preliminary rounds, where each of the 16 players will play their opponent once in rapid chess with a time control of 15 minutes + 10-second increments. Following culmination of round-robin phase, top 8 players will move on to the knockout rounds.
During the quarterfinal and semi-final rounds, each tie will consist of four matches between opponents with highest point scorer advancing to the next round. If the score is tied after four games, two 5+3 blitz games will be played followed by an Armageddon game. The championship match will include two sets of four-round matches with the player winning most points grabbing the crown.
This month marks the beginning of a new tournament centered on the clash of ages, which will be organized by Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, the top year-round chess circuit in the world. Eight-day spanning Julius Baer Generation Cup will be the seventh leg of $1.6 million worth Meltwater Champions Chess Tour and will run from September 18 to September 25.
The much-anticipated tournament will include 16 elite chess players from a range of ages including reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen, Indian prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandha, six-time World Championship candidate Boris Gelfand, and former World Rapid Champion Vasyl Ivanchuk. Meanwhile, 15-years-old Christopher Yoo is the youngest competitor of the upcoming competition.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 7 Prize Money Pool Distribution
Up to $90,000 in in-game rewards may be won, and the remaining prize money will be distributed according on how each participant places. The competition’s total prize money is $150,000 while winner of the prestigious event will bag a prize money of $25,000.
